Schnebly Hill Road is the old way into Sedona.
At first, it was an animal trail, then Indian trail, then settler trail
and finally became a narrow one lane dirt road cut into the side of
the steep cliffs. It is normally closed in winter, but we decided that
the Ford with its large tires and four-wheel drive had plenty of grip
to risk the trip.
This area is one of the most beautiful in the Sedona area, especially when the red rocks are covered with snow. If you have ever seen a Jeep commercial, this is where they go to film 90% of them. Along this section of road, the cliff is few feet to the right with a drop-off of approximately 1,000 ft. (300m). |
