While working for Turrell,
I never knew what my next assignment would be. However, I could always
count on it being interesting and challenging. This photo is of the
1935 White that Jim bought from Navy surplus in California. My job was
to drive it back to Sedona, a 500 mile trip, for use on the project.
The White was a 15-speed, 18,000 lb. antique that had already served several useful lives and still had many years of useful service left. That is one of the attributes that I admired in Jim. He would take something that others had discarded and make it a useful part of his projects. I had never driven a vehicle like this, so driving this monster through the mountains and deserts of California and Arizona was going to be an adventure. |
