Pre-Race Festivities

Centennial Olympic Park - Tuesday, October 2. After a dramatic drive through the streets of downtown Atlanta during lunchtime, the cars of the American Le Mans Series headed for display in Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park.

Test Day

Test Day - Wednesday, October 3 Audi led the pack again with all four of the Audi R8's at the front. Panoz slipped their #51 into fifth place followed by the two Cadillacs.


Thursday Practice page 1 - Thursday October 4. There were two daylight practices on Thursday. Here are photos from the afternoon session and of the preparation for night practice.

Thursday Practice page 2 - Thursday October 4. Night practice is always a magical time in preparation for an endurance race. This year's Petit Le Mans is starting two hours later so that there will be more night racing this year. Here are photos from night practice and pit activity.


Audi is 1, 2, 4 & 5 - Friday October 5 Tom Kristensen puts the factory Audi #1 on the pole while Panoz is third and the privateer Audi teams are fourth and fifth. The day was overcast with a light drizzle at the beginning of the session and it was called a wet session so any tires were allowed. Last year's record in the Audi R8 by Allan McNish stood, but this year there are four Audis in the top 5.


The Grid - Saturday, October 6 The grid began to build under the cloudy skies with the possibility of rain still lingering. The Hall County Fire Department, a local high school band and a military color guard were on hand. A parachutist with a canopy of the American flag came in and landed by the pace car. This year, the polesitters made a parade lap in the back of Audi TT roadsters.

Petit Le Mans 2001 Race

The Race - Saturday, October 6 The fourth annual Petit Le Mans was the biggest and most successful yet. 10's of thousands of fans filled Road Atlanta on a cool and blustery day. Audi continued their dominance in an impressive display of driving skill and superior racing machinery
